Ross Barkley
After a career revival at Luton, Ross Barkley has moved back to Aston Villa, where he was previously on loan at, in a hit-and-miss season.
I’m not convinced by this one. I think Barkley found his level at Luton and was a stand-out player because of his premier league experience and quality. In a Champions League side in Villa, he will likely be useful for squad depth, but little more.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
While an argument has already fairly been made to me that Chelsea don’t really need the star, coming in from Leicester, I rate this one.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has a game-changing streak about him. Enzo Maresca will also be the right man to get the best out of him.
A case could be made that this is a big jump in levels for him. But it was always said that he was a Prem player, and his 26 goal contributions in the championship shows he’s certainly capable of making the jump.
Archie Gray
Another player arriving at a bigger Prem side, after a season performing well in the championship. I rate the quality of Gray, just a bit unsure on the profile of the player for Spurs.
That’s because he reminds me of a right back version of Spurs’ Brennan Johnson signing. He’s a talent, that’s for sure. But he’s even younger and untested at 18. He will start some games. But he’s on the same flank as Johnson. He’s unlikely to hit the ground running straight away, which is what Spurs need.
Yes, it’s good to invest in youth. But British youth players, always carry with them a premium. Plus, Spurs need consistency and experience, right now. Time will tell and I can see him being a good investment in the long-run, just think Spurs need players for the here and now.
