We all love SERIE A don’t we.
If you grew up in the 90s era without access to the Premier League, then you no doubt switched your GRUNDIG TELEVISION to channel 4 and indulged in James Richardson & chums running around Italy with a folded pink Gazetta Sport & too much Italian espresso.
Glorioso.
But, Serie A has been through the mill in recent decades, reputations tarnished, investors looking abroad and a widespread exodus of its footballing stars fleeing to destinations far from Milan & Rome.
Roll forward into the 2022/23 season and we suddenly saw a switch in play, for a decade previously we had watched giants Juventus dominate and Cristiano Ronaldo a league deemed, dare I say it…slightly boring. In 2023 we saw a race for the Scudetto bearing no fewer than 5 teams including the likes of Atalanta, Napoli and Lazio. An image of excitement that had long since departed during the Juve & Christiano dominated era of the 2010’s.
With 3 separate Scudetto winners in 3 seasons, it would appear that Italy finally has its Calcio back.
As we paint pictures of bygone era’s in Italian Football and reminisce of the faces and sounds of GOALLLAZO, it’s also important to realise when something good has returned.
Napoli with the likes Osimhen & Kvratskelia, AC Milan with Leao & Hernandez, Inter with Martinez & Thuram and Juventus with Vlahovic & Chiesa. Maybe this new far-reaching success should be further attributed to the likes of your Bologna’s, Atalanta’s and Roma’s of Serie A. These clubs not only competing with the so called giants, but they’re beating them. Regularly.
It’s brings us to modern day, and yes Napoli lifted the 𝙎cudetto from the ashes of Diego Maradona, a moment we’ll all agree seemed almost uncannily, biblical. But form has returned in 2024 and Inter look to reign and rule for seasons to come.
Or will they? Such is the new verve of the Italian league that you really couldn’t call it for sure, no matter the elequence of your Fare polpette di qualcuno.
There’s even the La carota e il bastone of an extra qualification spot in Europe, leaving a real quake of competition, competitive edge and doggy determination. All things we love about Italian Football.
𝘾𝘼𝙇𝘾𝙄𝙊...it would appear, is back.
Now all that’s needed is the TV Remote and a channel to watch it on.
Ah.🇮🇹
